FAQs

Ketamine

What is Ketamine?

Supported by a good number of studies and clinical trials, intravenous (IV) ketamine has emerged as a promising treatment option for many chronic diseases, such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), fibromyalgia, and certain pain disorders.

Historically, Ketamine has been used to induce and maintain anesthesia, including procedural sedation in children and adults. More recently, a compelling amount of evidence suggests that in sub-anesthetic doses, ketamine infusions can restore the damaged brain pathways known to cause mood disorders.

Some patients achieve long-term relief after a single series of infusions, while others find that the infusions enhance their oral medications and complementary therapies. When administered in a monitored and controlled environment, studies show that Ketamine does not exhibit addictive potential and may be administered consistently to sustain mental health.

Suicidal thoughts tend to subside within four to 24 hours, with 70% of primary depressive disorder patients responding positively to the treatment. Our team of specialized physicians and mental health providers are paired with a health system dedicated to improving the psychological and physical health of the community. If you feel you have exhausted all current treatment options, especially depression therapy, ketamine infusion therapy may be the next step for you.

Why Ketamine?

Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide and the primary mental health disorder that gives rise to suicidal tendencies.

Approximately two in three people who suffer from major depression eventually achieve lasting symptom remission with conventional antidepressants and therapy; the remaining one in three do not.

For people with debilitating anxiety, persistent PTSD, anxiety, migraine, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain, ketamine infusion therapy offers several advantages.

Is Ketamine treatment safe?

Ketamine is a very safe medicine when administered as a treatment for depression. The clients are monitored closely for the duration of the 40-minute infusion. Most patients feel relaxed while they are receiving the infusion. We examine your medical history and medication list before the treatment and also consult your primary care physician or mental health professional as required.

Are there any side effects of Ketamine?

The side effects of the low-dose ketamine infusions are minimal and only last about an hour or two. They may include mild drowsiness, nausea, and increased blood pressure. However, some less common side effects include agitation or vivid dreams. These side effects can be controlled by adjusting the dosage.

While receiving Ketamine infusion therapy, can I continue all of my current medications?

Your current medications are evaluated for your safety and optimal experience. In some cases, some of the medications have been shown to interfere with or dampen the effectiveness of the infusion. These medicines include benzodiazepines (such as Ativan, Versed, Valium, Xanax, and Clonazepam), olanzapine (Zyprexa), and risperidone (Risperdal). There is no need to stop these medications, but the dose leading up to infusion therapy and after may need to be adjusted for a short period.

What can be the risks of IV Ketamine infusion treatments?

Infusion therapy is well-tolerated. However, with any medical procedure or administration of medication, there can always be a potential risk of complications or adverse events. The symptoms or side effects diminish once the infusion is completed, discontinued, or slowed. We are prepared for all potential side effects at our clinic and have the necessary equipment to manage the possible complications of all treatments that we offer.

Are there any age limitations for treatment?

Until now, there are no set age limits for receiving ketamine infusion treatments.

How long does the infusion take?
  • The infusion lasts about 40 minutes with 20 to 30 minutes of recovery time for mood disorders and fibromyalgia.
  • The infusion lasts around 2 hours with 45 minutes of recovery time for the neuropathic pain and refractory headaches.
  • For CRPS, the infusion lasts for almost 4 hours with roughly 45 to 60 minutes of recovery time.
What to expect during my first infusion?

After receiving your medical history, we will schedule an initial consultation with our psychiatric nurse practitioner, who will answer all your questions, assess you as a candidate for ketamine therapy and formulate a treatment plan.

The infusion logistics are as follows: we will place an IV, apply monitors to record your heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, and oxygen level continuously throughout the infusion, then we begin the infusion. During the infusion, occasionally, people experience nausea or dizziness. If you experience nausea, we are equipped to treat it with an IV dose of an anti-nausea medication.

The infusion itself takes about 45 minutes. Afterwards, we will monitor you for approximately 30 minutes before being released with a friend or relative who can drive you safely home.

You will be awake during the infusion and able to interact with those around you. It is best to relax quietly or listen to relaxing music during the infusion. The effects of Ketamine wear off quickly once the infusion is stopped, although we ask that you refrain from driving until the day after the infusion.

Please do not eat solid foods, milk, pulp-filled juices, or soup for 4-hours prior to your appointment. You may have clear liquids such as water, Gatorade, apple juice, black coffee, or tea up to two hours before your appointment.

Can I drive home?

The potential for immediate side effects also means that someone else must drive you to and from your treatment session. Even though the mild dissociative side effects of Ketamine tend to diminish quickly, the treatment can leave you feeling tired or groggy until you’ve had a good night’s rest.

Will the results last?

Ketamine infusion therapy isn’t a “one-and-done” treatment that “cures” depression in a single session, but it’s also not like conventional antidepressants that must be taken daily for years on end (or for as long as they work).

Instead, ketamine infusions stimulate beneficial brain changes that lead to lasting symptom relief over the course of a single treatment cycle.

For the average patient, the acute phase of ketamine infusion therapy calls for a series of six infusions spaced out over the course of two or three weeks. This initial treatment is followed by a long-term maintenance phase that includes occasional booster infusions as needed.

What are the success rates?

Ketamine infusion therapy is still being studied, but research shows that it has a high success rate when it comes to treating persistent depression.

Several studies indicate 70% of people achieve significant symptom relief after a single infusion, and many more find relief up to 85% after two or three infusions.

An excellent efficacy rate is a major part of what makes ketamine infusion therapy so beneficial for people who haven’t achieved lasting relief through traditional medical solutions.

How many infusions do I need?

Typically, it will take 3 to 4 treatments to know if Ketamine will help you. The standard ketamine infusion protocol for depression that has resulted from scientific trials and clinical experience around the U.S. is 6 infusions over a two-week intensive treatment period. It has been shown that serial infusions are more effective than single infusions. The majority of patients who respond to ketamine treatment require maintenance infusions regularly following the initial series. After the intensive treatment phase, maintenance (booster) treatment will be scheduled to maintain response. The total length of treatment is highly dependent on each individual’s unique circumstances. It is important to note that ketamine infusions should not be viewed as a cure for depression but rather a depression treatment that is a piece of a multi-modal approach that may include ongoing mental health therapy or other depression medication.

Can I continue to take my regular medications?

Yes, you should not stop your antidepressant medications from receiving Ketamine. It is essential that we review your current medication list prior to beginning ketamine treatments.

Is Ketamine addicting?

Ketamine is not physically addicting but has been shown to be psychologically addicting in those using it recreationally at much higher doses and in far greater frequencies than we will use.

Is it affordable?

Despite our commitment to keep our pricing as low as possible, we recognize that it can still be a financial stretch for many to afford ketamine infusions. Rest assured that we will very carefully evaluate your response to treatment and recommend against further infusions if the benefits are not apparent.

Insurance companies most likely do not cover ketamine treatments at this time. However, you are welcome to apply for reimbursement, and we will provide you the necessary documents to do so. We remain hopeful that insurance companies will one day join the legions of others who recognize the effectiveness of Ketamine and begin covering this for patients.

How soon will I see the results?

Ketamine infusions work very quickly, often within hours to ease depressive symptoms. If effective, there should be a perceptible difference in feeling less sad, more hopeful, decreased thoughts of suicide, increased calmness, and mood improvement.

Are there any drawbacks?

Despite the fact that Ketamine offers major benefits in treating persistent depression, no treatment is perfect. The drawbacks of Ketamine have to do with its dissociative effects.

Although ketamine infusion therapy uses sub-anesthetic doses to relieve depression, it can still induce certain temporary side effects, including floating sensations, fuzzy vision, and dizziness.

Because of this, ketamine infusion therapy must be:

  • Approved for use only after a comprehensive evaluation or referral.
  • Received in a ketamine-certified clinical setting.
  • Administered and monitored by an experienced provider.

Telehealth

What is telehealth?

Telehealth refers to the use of digital information and communication technologies, such as computers and mobile devices, to access healthcare services remotely. It includes services like virtual doctor visits, health monitoring, and health education.

How does telehealth work?

Telehealth typically involves using a secure online video platform, mobile app, or phone to connect with healthcare providers. Patients can consult with their doctors, receive diagnoses, treatment plans, and prescriptions without the need for an in-person visit.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person care?

For many healthcare needs, telehealth can be as effective as in-person care. It’s particularly useful for follow-up appointments, managing chronic conditions, and addressing minor health issues. However, some conditions may still require an in-person evaluation.

What services are available through telehealth?

Stathealth Telehealth services include primary care, mental health services, medication management, and more. The availability of services may vary depending on the clinic and the patient’s health needs.

How do I prepare for a telehealth appointment?

To prepare for a telehealth appointment, ensure you have a quiet, private space with a stable internet connection. Test your device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) to make sure the camera and microphone are working. Have your medical history and a list of current medications ready to share with the provider.

Is telehealth covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans now cover telehealth services, but coverage can vary. It’s best to check with your insurance provider to understand your specific benefits and any out-of-pocket costs.

How do I schedule a telehealth appointment?

Scheduling a telehealth appointment is similar to scheduling an in-person visit. Go on their website and click on the appointment tab. This will guide you through the process of setting up an appointment and accessing the telehealth platform.

Is my privacy protected during telehealth visits?

Yes, telehealth providers are required to follow strict privacy laws, such as HIPAA, to protect your personal health information. Ensure that you are in a secure location during your telehealth visit to maintain your privacy.

What if I need an in-person visit after a telehealth consultation?

If the provider determines that an in-person visit is necessary, she will advise you on the next steps. This could include scheduling an appointment at a clinic or hospital for further evaluation or treatment.

Can I use telehealth for emergency situations?

Telehealth is not a substitute for emergency care. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Weight Loss Therapy

How does medical weight loss work?

Medical weight loss is a personalized, physician-supervised program designed to help patients lose weight safely and effectively. It includes metabolic optimization, lifestyle counseling, and personalized nutrition recommendations. Our goal is to help you achieve long-term success by addressing the root causes of weight gain, such as hormonal imbalances, metabolism, and appetite regulation.

Do I need a prescription for weight loss medication?

Yes. All weight loss medications we prescribe require a medical evaluation by a licensed provider. Not everyone is a candidate for prescription weight loss medication, so we assess your medical history, lab results, and weight loss goals before recommending the best treatment option for you.

How soon will I see results?

Results vary depending on the individual, but most patients start noticing changes within the first few weeks of treatment. The first 4–6 weeks typically focus on adjusting to the medication, lifestyle changes, and metabolic improvements. Over time, with consistency, patients experience steady and sustainable weight loss averaging 1–2 pounds per week.

Are diet and exercise required for success?

While weight loss medications can help control hunger and improve metabolism, incorporating a balanced diet and regular physical activity will enhance results and improve overall health. We provide personalized recommendations to support your journey, but we do not promote extreme dieting.

Are there side effects with weight loss medications?

Most prescription weight loss medications are well-tolerated, but some may cause mild side effects such as nausea, digestive issues, or fatigue in the early stages. These typically subside as your body adjusts to the treatment. We closely monitor your progress and make adjustments to minimize side effects.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Who is a good candidate for HRT?

HRT is recommended for individuals experiencing hormonal imbalances due to aging, menopause, or other medical conditions. Symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, mood swings, brain fog, and decreased libido are common indicators that hormone therapy may be beneficial. A consultation and lab testing help determine if you’re a candidate.

Is bioidentical hormone therapy safe?

Yes. Bioidentical hormones are designed to mimic your body’s natural hormones and are considered a safer alternative to synthetic hormones. They are derived from plant-based sources and formulated to fit your body’s unique hormonal needs, reducing the risk of side effects.

How long does it take to feel the effects of HRT?

Most patients begin to feel noticeable improvements within a few weeks, such as increased energy, improved sleep, and mood stabilization. However, full benefits can take a few months as hormone levels stabilize and the body adjusts.

How is HRT administered?

HRT can be delivered in several forms, including oral tablets, patches, topical creams, injections, or subcutaneous hormone pellets. The best option depends on your hormonal needs, lifestyle, and medical history.

Can HRT help prevent future health issues?

Yes. Hormones play a crucial role in bone density, cardiovascular health, brain function, and metabolism. Restoring hormonal balance through HRT may help reduce the risk of osteoporosis, heart disease, and cognitive decline, improving overall long-term health.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)

What are the symptoms of low testosterone?

Common symptoms of low testosterone (Low T) include:

  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Decreased muscle mass and strength
  • Weight gain (especially around the midsection)
  • Low libido and sexual dysfunction
  • Mood changes, irritability, and depression
  • Brain fog and difficulty concentrating

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, a simple blood test can determine your testosterone levels and whether TRT is right for you.

How is testosterone therapy administered?

TRT can be delivered through injections, topical gels/creams, or subcutaneous hormone pellets. The best method depends on your preference, lifestyle, and medical needs. Many patients prefer injections because they provide steady hormone levels and fast results.

Is TRT safe?

Yes, when prescribed and monitored by a medical professional, TRT is safe and effective. Regular blood work and follow-ups ensure that your testosterone levels remain balanced and that there are no adverse effects.

How soon will I feel results with TRT?

Most men start noticing improvements in energy, focus, and mood within 2–4 weeks of starting TRT. Muscle strength, libido, and body composition improvements generally occur within 3–6 months.

Does TRT help with long-term health?

Yes! Maintaining optimal testosterone levels can help reduce the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and osteoporosis, while also enhancing overall vitality and longevity.

IM Injections

What are IM injections?

Intramuscular (IM) injections deliver vitamins, nutrients, or medications directly into the muscle, allowing for faster absorption and enhanced effectiveness compared to oral supplements.

How often should I get IM injections?

Frequency depends on your health goals and the type of injection. Some injections (like B12 or Lipo-Mino) can be taken weekly, while others (like NAD+ or Vitamin D3) may only be needed once a month. Your provider will recommend the best schedule for you.

How quickly do IM injections work?

IM injections bypass the digestive system, allowing nutrients to enter the bloodstream quickly and efficiently. Many patients report feeling increased energy and mental clarity within 24-48 hours after injections like B12 or NAD+.

Are IM injections better than oral supplements?

Yes! IM injections deliver higher absorption rates because they go directly into the muscle, whereas oral supplements must pass through the digestive system, which reduces absorption. IM injections provide faster and more effective results.

Are there any side effects?

IM injections are generally safe and well-tolerated. Some patients may experience mild soreness at the injection site or temporary redness. These effects usually resolve within a few hours.

Do IM injections hurt?

The injection feels like a small pinch and is quick and minimally uncomfortable. Most patients tolerate IM injections very well and find them much easier than IV treatments.

Can I combine different IM injections in one visit?

Yes! Many of our patients combine multiple injections for enhanced results. For example, B12 + Lipo-Mino for energy & weight loss, or Tri-Immune Boost + Glutathione for immune and detox support.

How much do IM injections cost?

Prices vary depending on the type of injection. We offer:
💉 Single Injections – Starting at $30-$100 per shot
💉 Membership Plans – Save with weekly or monthly injection subscriptions!
💡 First-Time Patients: Get $10 OFF Your First Injection!
